This is the first in our series of commonly used ingredients for natural products. The purpose is to provide the reader with a brief overview without all the excess information. This allows for a quick informative read but can still offer the required information. So lets get started.


Apricot kernel oil is produced form the seeds (kernels) of the Apricot (Prunus armeniaca) fruit. It is thought that Apricots originated in China and are now widely harvested throughout the Mediterranean regions as well as central Asia. The largest producer currently is Turkey.

Benefits

Apricot Oil is an excellent:

  • Emollient (Moisturizer)
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Anti-Bacterial
  • Anti-Septic
  • Anti-Aging oil


Apricot oil is excellent in hair and on skin due to its high amount of nutrients. It is rich in fatty acids, as well as Vitamins A, C, and E.

In hair it aids in growth, adds shine without being greasy, reduces dry scalp/dandruff, and softens hair. This also applies to beards.

On skin apricot oil spreads well and since it is so light, it is quickly absorbed offering excellent moisturizing to all skin types but especially to dry. Due to its soothing nature it is often used as a massage oil. Apricot is one of the oils that has a lipid content similar to your skin so it is perfect for skin uses. It has also been used to relief itch and irritation of excema.

On the face it helps to reduce the visibility of lines, wrinkles, and blemishes, as well as reduce dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.
