In my last article we started taking a look at what the essential oils in our beard grooming products bring to the table. There are such a large number of excellent oils but this week we are going to go over what Peppermint Essential Oil (E.O) can do for you. Peppermint is one of the main oils used in Primitive Outposts Citrus Mint Beard Oil and Beard Balms and offers so much more than just an amazing smell.
Peppermint Essential Oil also known as Mentha Piperita is a cross species between Spearmint and Water Mint. It has antiviral, antibacterial, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties and contains omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, Vitamins A and C, minerals, manganese and copperone garnering the reputation of one of the most versatile essential oils available. Over the years these properties have not gone unnoticed as it is one of the oldest European herbs used for medicine and was used by the ancient Chinese and Japanese for its medicinal properties. The ancient Egyptians also used it and it has been found in several pyramids and has been mentioned in their history as far back as 1000 BC.
Peppermint Oil is an anti-microbial and is great at reducing acne. It controls the secretion of excess oil and prevents pores from clogging. This can drastically reduce acne outbreaks.
Due to the Menthol it contains Peppermint E.O has a cooling effect of skin inflammation. This goes hand in hand with it helping with itch.
Due to it having astringent properties this oil will have regulate the sebum production of your face or scalp helping to get rid of that greasy build up feeling.
Peppermint Essential Oil has excellent moisturizing properties and works wonders on dry skin or scalp which will help hydrate the area and rid you of beardruff or dandruff. Its also an antiseptic with further helps with those pesky flakes.
Not only will it nourish your hair but Peppermint E.O will penetrate into your skin, increase blood flow and stimulate the hair follicles. This helps with growth and also creates stronger hair roots.
Peppermint Oil contains Menthol, so by simply inhaling it you can clear out and unclog your sinuses and any associated congestion. It's also an effective expectorant that can give relief to coughs, colds, asthma, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
Peppermint can help to relax the muscles in your nasal passage which can help to clear out the pollen and irritants during the allergy months.
Since Peppermint Essential Oil is so calming and cooling it can often help with settling the individual down and aiding with concentration.
Instead of downing energy drinks or massive amounts of coffee (although coffee is delicious), if you need wake up or stay up just try inhaling this wonderful scent. Not only does it help with alertness it can help with focus and concentration.
If you are feeling stressed out or have a nagging headache, the aroma of Peppermint can help to soothe and relax which in turn can de-stress and help reduce or eliminate your headache. It also can increase circulation when applied topically so a few drops can relax tight muscles and help with headache pain relief.
Bugs hate Peppermint Essential Oil which means its perfect to keep you insect free. Ticks, fleas, lice, spiders, ants, mosquitoes, black flies and cockroaches all will steer clear from this scent.
Come on. This is Peppermint we are talking about here. It smells so freaking good.
As you can see, unlike synthetic fragrances, essential oils offer a wide variety of benefits in addition to smelling great.
